3rd Grade Field Trip

It's that time of year again...when we invite the 3rd grade students from Western Primary into Jarrell Orthodontics for an up close and personal look at the world of orthodontics. The students bound off the bus, and charge through the doors of Jarrell Orthodontics where they are greeted by Dr. Kevin Jarrell who gives them an overview of the orthodontic process. After the introduction to "ortho", the students head back to the lab, our "thumbs" station, where they make a mold of their thumb in a little cup of alginate. As their thumbs are "curing", the students go onto the scanning station there they see how we take impressions of the teeth using the "itero" scanner. Then, it's off to x-ray for a lesson on the types of x-rays we take (panoramic and cephalometric) and finally, hygiene for a unit on brushing and flossing. Just before the students board the bus for the trip back to school, they are given the mold of their thumbs, along with a goodie bag with a tooth pencil, a sticker that reminds them to "brush and floss", a pre-pasted toothbrush, and a pencil eraser in the shape of a toothbrush. It's a crazy, busy morning but everyone, kids, Dr. Kevin, and the entire team at Jarrell Orthodontics has a great time.
